Cornish Seal Sanctuary

Access4ALL

Description

Service Description:
Take the family to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and learn about its work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of seals around Cornwall’s coastline.
Based in Gweek, commanding panoramic views of the Helford River, the sanctuary is dedicated to seal rescue, rehabilitation and release, as well as raising awareness of how plastic pollution has affected our marine life in Cornwall. It also provides a forever home to animals needing permanent specialist care from the experts.
Meet the rescued seal pups going through rehabilitation during pup season in the winter, before being returned to the wild. See and hear about the resident animals and learn about their stories.
Explore woodland walks with your four-legged friends and get a bite at the café.

Answered Questions:
  • Do You Support Children/young People With Special Educational Needs And Disabilities (SEND)?: Yes
    • Due to the nature of our location, there are some steep gradients on our site. From our main reception area and car park, it is about a 600m walk to our seal hospital, and then a further 300m downhill to our seal pools.
Please read the following information to help plan your visit with us.
Please call us on 01326 221 361 so we can help you make the most of your day, or email seals@sealifetrust.com.
Visitors using mobility scooters or electric wheelchairs
The hills leading down to our pools may exceed 16° which may not be suitable for some mobility scooters and electric wheel chairs. Please check your instruction manuals before visiting.
For visitors unable to use their mobility scooters or electric wheelchairs on steep slopes, we do have limited accessible parking available near our hospital and seal pools. Please see further information on accessible parking below.
      Vehicle Assistance
For visitors that may need mobility assistance due to the site’s steep gradients, our on-site van is able to take up to 4 passengers.
For days that our on-site van is not available, or for visitors unable to use this mode of transport for any reason, we do have limited accessible parking available near our hospital and seal pools.
Please speak to a member of our team on arrival if you require this assistance.
      Accessible Parking
Our main accessible parking area is immediately in front of our main reception or we do have a limited number of spaces to park by the seal pools which is then on a relatively flat surface, giving you access to all of our residents and beaver enclosure.
      Accessible Toilets
Our accessible toilets and baby changing facilities are located in our front reception, and on the left hand side of our Seal Hospital. Our baby changing facilities include changing units with a weight limit of 50lbs. Unfortunately there are no accessible toilet facilities once down the hill by our seals pools due to the estuary location.
      Free Carer Policy
One carer goes free for every paying disabled guest. Please note the exception of under 3-year old's who already are entitled to free entry to The Cornish Seal Sanctuary. Free entry for a carer will be valid against both walk up and online purchased tickets. Please ensure that you bring documentation with you on the day such as your blue badge, DLA Letter or note from a doctor or specialist.
We can make allowances for disabled visitors who need more than 1 carer in exceptional circumstances. Please contact the Sanctuary directly to confirm your visit and additional carers before your visit.
      Sensory Bags
We have a small number of sensory bags available to borrow during your visit. These bags contain a number of sensory items to help you enjoy your visit to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, including ear defenders, fidget toys and feelings cards. Please ask our admissions team if you would like to borrow a Sanctuary Sensory Bag during your visit.
